  • Your studies combine lectures, project work, lab sessions, and simulations. A practical semester is integrated. The faculty and instructors maintain close ties with industry and bring this practical experience into the program.

  • English-language lectures and a semester abroad at one of our many international partner universities around the world are integral parts of the program and prepare you for a global working environment.

  • During your studies, you will go through and manage a complete product development and implementation process – right through to product marketing or your own spin-off.

  • You will plan and implement your product idea in small teams. Our lecturers will guide and support you throughout the process. Even in lecture halls, we maintain small group sizes and ensure a good student-to-faculty ratio.

Using and Managing Resources Sustainably

The focus of the program is on the sustainable design of internal processes, such as product development and manufacturing, organization, and the steps involved in starting a business.

Structure and content

The degree program addresses, among other things, the following questions:

  • How can the use of resources and energy, as well as the design of the production environment, be made as sustainable as possible?
  • How does an idea become a product?
  • What production technology, manufacturing structure, and work organization does a company need to achieve its goals?
  • What steps are necessary from the product idea to organizing prototype production, all the way to marketing and founding a company?
  • How can processes be optimized through digitalization, and which digital tools can be used in production design?
  • Are environmentally and climate-friendly technologies being used?
  • Are social and health-related aspects taken into account in production and business operations?

Study structure

After two foundation semesters and one specialization semester, you will apply and demonstrate your acquired knowledge and skills during a practical semester.

In the following semester abroad, you will study at one of our international partner universities. This is followed by another specialization semester at our faculty in Reutlingen. In the final 7th semester, you will write your thesis in cooperation with a company.
